"He's a good man, and thorough" (name that movie!)
Today was my pre-op with Dr. Nezhat and his assistant surgeons. I was very pleased with my meeting. Everyone in his office took the time to explain exactly what was going to happen, including "what if" scenarios. Never did I feel like crying, like I had in my two previous per-ops. I felt really happy and optimistic, excited even. There's a very unlikely chance they'll remove both ovaries (only to save my life) and pretty much no chance they'll remove my uterus. Likely, the surgery is gonna be a very thorough clean up of scar tissue. They're going to check a good chunk of my abdomen (stomach, liver, uterus, intestines, etc.) for adhesions and remove them.
When I went over to Stanford for my meeting with the anesthesiologist, I got the same excellent care I'd received earlier. Everyone was really friendly and answered all my questions. They took my motion sickness (which can lead to complications with the anesthesia) very seriously, and they were sweet, too!
My surgery is set for 7:30 am; I gotta be there at 5:30 am. Expected surgery time is 2 hours, but 3 hours are blocked for it. After that, it's about an hour in recovery, then a stay in the "23 hour" ward. I'll be at Stanford overnight, maybe longer if I need it. My recuperation after the surgery can be anywhere from 4 days - 8 weeks, but they expect me to take about 3. Dr. Nezhat's office will be calling everyday the week after my surgery and checking on me.
I feel really good about this.
